Minutes after the shootings, everybody's cell phone rang. We weren't supposed to have cell phones unless we had a note from our parents explaining why they had to be able to reach us in a hurry.
But most of us had them anyway, and, as it turned out, most of the parents (for all their complaining about how much TV kids watched) were close enough to a radio or television so that they found out immediately, and all the phones went off at once. The annoying rings and the stupid songs sang out only slightly muffled, from inside everyone's backpack.
This is what it's about:
The shooting in Pleasant Valley were fifty miles away, but at central high a grief and crisis counselor is hired, security is increased, and privileges are being taken away.
No one knows why.
If you break the new rules the punishment is severe. And the rules keep changing everyday.
School feels like prison.
It's for their protection, fifteen year old Tom Bishop and his friends learn that things are far more sinister than they seem. Students and teachers begin disappearing.
There's no way to stop it.
Nationally best selling and acclimated author Francine Prose has written a haunting novel about what happens when protection goes too far and what it means to have freedom extinguished-in the name of Safety.
I did not write it. It is from the book After by Francine Prose and I wanted to hear people’s thoughts about it or recommend it for you guys. Tell me what you think.
