my boyfriend told me that there's a guy rule where a man is not supposed to date his friends ex without the friends permission.

Can someone explain to me why a man has to ask that friends permission for?

It's kind of like a "male code of honor" thing.

If this person is a friend of yours,

and you value your friendship,

it is the polite and appropriate thing to do

when something of this sorts comes up.

Friendship bonds are much greater and more important

than any friends ex would ever be to you.

ALSO, guys talk about things just like females do,

so if lets say the friend and the ex lived together when they were dating

and the friend realized the ex was a slob and didnt take care of herself,

he could fore warn his friend.

understand?

I think this is just a "people rule" disguised as a "guy rule"...who wants to hang out with a couple consisting of a friend and an ex? Don't you think it would be painful/uncomfortable/just plain piss you off to hear about the great time your friend is having with your ex? Do you want someone you trust sharing info with someone you used to trust? Could be that this is one of the reason's why guy's friendships are drama-free compared to girl's friendships - we steer clear of crazy situations like this, keep the friendship separate from other stuff and looks outside our friend's past for our next hook-up.

Well if you think about it like this: if your best friend went out with your ex boy friend without even asking you! Guys have that rule just in case there is still something happening between them or need to get over them.

I wouldn't call it a "guy rule." I know plenty of women who feel the same way -- if there are any lingering feelings, it can be a very awkward situation.

we wouldnt want to disrespect or jeopardize our own relationship as friends...common sense
2010-09-29 02:29:44 UTC
Because you don't know if he's over her or not.
