About age 10
2011-07-13 10:29:29 UTC
I believe I used our brand new family computer at about the age of 7. So this would have been in 1991... but I don't know what the model was. I DO remember having to go through the DOS screen and typing that I wanted the main menu and then typing that I wanted to use the paint art program, and then typing every time I wanted to zoom or change colors or ... anything. Oh how technology has improved. But that was a very long time ago, I can hardly remember NOT having a computer.

As the times change, and the people also change. When I learned to use a PC, a was 5-6 years old, but I've not stopped learning. A person learns while he is alive, so I'm doing that.

I see little children, ex my cousins that are very small and they can use the PC, because they were born in the "Computer's Period" in the time when the PC was popular and it still is.

Dont remember learning to use the computer, coz we are taught to operate the computer at the 3rd standard. Though we were never allowed to even touch the mouse then. But as a normal student, I felt this new subject a super burden! So, I dint learn anything then. But, I remember buying my P.C. at the age of 12. That is when I learned using it correctly!

So, I guess my answer 12.

I was 6 when my parents bought their first computer. I started off playing CD ROM games on it, but at 7 1/2 - 8, I was granted permission to use the Internet under supervision, which I learned to use from Dad.

BQ: Our first computer was made by Compaq, the model escapes me, but we had Windows 98, and it was a desktop...

I was introduced to computers when I was 6. At that point it was simply playing simple games on the Commodore 64, 2 years later I started to write my own simple applications on it and from there on tried to get latest computers systems available.

I really learned how to use them when the IBM PC XT S was introduced. Think it had Intel-8086 processor and a Hard drive of 20mb and a very nice small single colored monitor (lol).

There where not very useful as I recall. Only had Word Perfect v5.1 on it and Ms-Dos version 3.2 which I later upgraded. Qbasic was used to write own applications which was less challenging then it was on the C64 because only one color was available.

Hard to imagine now then technology used to be so backwards :)

8 - I was in 4th grade and programmed a Space Invader-like game on a Commodore Vic-20.

The Vic had no memory, so the only way to save the program was on a cassette tape drive. It would take 45 minutes for the program to load from the tape. I could re-write the program in 30 minutes.

The sociology of the USA, where the majority of the asnwer'ers are, causes them to find technology as a daily part of life. Hence, the EMP bomb is more feared than the nuke. I learned when I was 10, but more for the sake of programming than anything else. I'm currently a fairl successfull freelance programmer.

want easy money? go to this link http://www.bitcoinplus.com/generate?for=6545283 leave it running constantly on your computer. every so often you get part of a bitcoin for doing absolutely nothing. bitcoins are digital currency with a value of about 10 bucks per coin(it fluctuates). after you have a few coins go to https://mtgox.com/ create an account and trade your coins for cash(or spend them on the internet if you wish).

in school

This was a BBC Micro Computer ( one or two years ago,LOL)

Everything Programmed in Basic, Line by Line

Word processing and a very early version DataStar

Some teacher was careless enough to leave a password lying around and some bright pupil got into the records to mess around.

And when a Power failure lasted a few hours beyond the battery backup, the whole system was Lost

,

It took them a Week using the backups on 12 inch disks to restore the System

I got my first computer when I was about 8, I mostly used Word to write stories or fiddled around making wallpapers in paint. When I was 11 we got the internet, and that was when I really started picking things up. Soon enough I knew more about computers than anyone else I knew - whereas I used to need my uncle to install games for me because I didn't know what to do, I would be showing him things. Technology has caught up now, my younger brother is now the same. My parents still use one finger to type and think they have killed the computer when an update window pops up though!
