Can weed cause a panic attack? That's a real debate.

I personally feel that weed will trigger a panic attack in people who are more prone to them while being completely sober. I've smoked weed for about 9 years, and have smoked everyday for about 5. For the majority of that time, I was able to smoke as much as I wanted. But lately, if I smoke more than just a hit or two, I will without a doubt have a panic attack. Two months ago, I would have thought panic attacks were a joke. But now, since having them after smoking, and having them while being totally sober, I know that these things are no laughing matter. It is without a doubt the worst feelings I've ever experianced. So for me, yes, smoking weed can cause or, or worsen, a panic attack.

What is a panic attack?

Have you ever been really scared? Thats essentially what a panic attack is. Its fear totally taking over your body. Your heart rate will usually increase drastically. Your blood pressure could spike. You start sweating like crazy, and adrenaline pumps into your body in massive amounts. Its like your whole body is being overcome with fear. Different people have different symptoms when going through panic, but usually the fore mentioned symptoms occur. For some people it lasts only 10 minutes, but I've had panic attacks last hours. Panic attacks are at least for me, the worst feeling I've ever had, it drains everything out of me, and afterwards I am exhausted. Do a simple google search, and you will find tons of information on the web. Feel free to respond to this answer, I'll gladly answer any questions you have.

OK, as someone who is fresh off medication for anxiety and panic disorders, let me take a crack at this: A fair few of the symptoms could be either, but all of them could be panic attacks. However, here are a few things which could help you determine which: Do these start after you've been thinking about your health, and wondering if you are OK. Panic attacks normally start with a thought, and build up based on it. Are you mentally confused at all during them? When I had panic attacks, I was never able to sit still. I would try to calm down and breath normally, but the slightest thing would set me off and I'd have to move. Does the shaking happen usually after things start to calm down. Your body produces a huge amount of adrenaline during a panic attack, and coming down off that causes shaking for people who have had panic attacks. If you really try had, and breath slowly and normally, and try to clear your mind, does this help it go away? Does the headache come after as well? I often got them from the physical exertion, which is usually quite extreme during a panic attack. I hope this helps...

Panic attacks are very sudden, discrete periods of intense anxiety

The onset of these episodes is typically abrupt, and may have no obvious triggers.

i have a friend that has panic attacks and she described it as feeling as though she was having a heart attack ...they are really scary.

and smoking weed actually does the opposite and really doesn't have anything to do with panic attacks, however i'm sure you probably could get a panic attack if your anxiety was high enough.

Panic attacks are caused by stress, anxiety, and anything to get your nerves going. Example when you're really overwhelmed or nervous. I never heard anyone smoking weed and getting one, but it's probably possible. If you ever get a panic attack just remember to breath and try lowering your heart rate by calming down.

A panic attack is when you feel that you need to run from something bad or dangerous, but you just can't! The chest gets tight, the heart beats fast, your stomach makes more acids, which burns the pipe just above your stomach. You get nausea. Your head hearts, your eyes get out of focus. Not a good feeling!!

It's a sudden attack of fear.

I don't think you get it from smoking weed, you get it if you are in a stressful situation, if you're scared, or if they run in your family. (if your family members have them , you'll have a better chance of having one)

When I have mine, I shake violently and cry or it gets hard to breathe. So, I'm guessing there's many forms of panic attacks.

A panic attack is an unexpected attack. So, the person that said that to you said it because he or she didn't want you to start smoking. That is probably a lie. It doesn't exist.

A panic attack can be different from person to person. For me I feel like I have lost control of what is going and I can't control myself. I feel like the walls are closing in, I start hyperventilating and crying and shaking.

My friend starts shaking, hyperventilating and pretty much goes numb.

It really varies but it happens when you feel panicked or nervous and can happen more often if you have anxiety.

It's not always the same for all people, but it's basically a short period including symptoms like rapid heart rate, hyperventilation, perspiration, anxiety, dizziness, et cetera. Using cannabis doesn't cause them, at least not in anything more than a very, very small minority of cases.

Its different for everyone, but generally the inability to breath, no matter how hard you try.

You end up gasping for air and feel as if your going to faint.

Get a paper bag (must be paper) and breath in and out of the bag covering your mouth and nose.

IT is also said that sometimes, weed could cause panic attacks, that's wut happened to my friend.

weed CAN cause panic attacks. Your heart starts racing and your blood pressure goes up, you feel heated, dizzy, get sweats and sometimes feel nauseous. It does not happen often but it can and does happen. It will usually happen within the first hour of smoking. If this happens just lie down for a while and it should go away.

panic attack is when your body goes in to like a fight or flight state. adrenlin starts pumping, your pulse becomes rapid and you feel an uncomfatable sensation of fear.

they can happen when you stress out or sometimes when you are in a relaxed state ie watching tv.

and they can be a side effect of excessive cannabis use but it is fairly rare.
