Everyone is so mean! You aren't stupid sweets. Don't listen to them. Our paper money actually has no value. What it represents does. It represents the actual wealth of the country. Our commodities e.g. oil, corn, soy, wheat, technology etc is how we measure our wealth or, in your questions case, the value of a dollar compared to other currencies. A better way to solve our problem would be to unify all of the worlds' currencies into a universal currency. Once every country begins to work together, we will have the total value of the planet to back our universal "dollar." This will not happen in our lifetime.

Printing more money will only enhance the problem more. The government doesn't have enough money to back the bills out there now. At any time they can say those paper bills are worthless.

What we need are some honest government officials.

Haha! Nice try!

Germany and Zimbabwe have tried this only to have a loaf of bread cost $1,400 dollars and have people building shelters with piles of banknotes. Money is a measurement unit of wealth, you need wealth to back up money.

Bills aren't worth anything, they are really I.O.Us from the monarchy or government =]

But hey, its more than the powers that be have thought of doing ;]

OMG why can't people take a joke these days? Those are some pretty harsh answers. Yes, everyone knows that printing money like mad = inflation, but it sounds like a really fun idea to me. I got dibs on rolling around naked in all the money.

Inflation is the issue here. Too much money=low value for the dollar. I think it may be a better idea for the gov't to do savings bonds like they did back in the day, but then again, I am no economist. Maybe that wouldn't work either.

if the amount of money increases the cost for items will also increase. it will make you look richer but your not really coz everything has gone up. they are trying to increase the money people are spending by printing more money and making them look richer so they spend spend spend as the credit crunch is making everyone save.

and if you have too much money in the country hyperinflation would be crazy

"there was a basket full of cash and someone only took the basket coz it was worth more"

because of the fact then funds will substitute into valueless. there is completely a undeniable quantity of money and no count what share $a hundred charges are printed, the quantity of funds a usa has does not substitute.

That's exactly what they're doing. Where do you suppose that $700 billion came from? Ever since we went off the gold standard, the only thing that determines the value of our money is what our government says it's worth, or what others are willing to pay for it.

For those who seem to believe otherwise, US money hasn't been based on the value of gold for over 30 years.

If you print more money with nothing to back it up, It is just paper. If you print to much money , It creates inflation and your money is worth less and diminishes your buying power.

Germany did it too. Before and during the ww2.

People had to take a wheel barrow full of money just to buy a loaf of bread.

Buy a wheel barrow now,,,lol.

Because all the money you have is backed up with gold. Printing more money would make the money worth less.

gold is th real money. the FRB is only supposed to print more money if our gold is increased or goes up in value.

I asked that to my mom once and she said that money would loose it's value if there was too much made. Picture this: if they made a lot of iPods and everyone in America had like 5 iPods then no one would care if the other person had a iPod, it would be meaningless :)

theres a certiain amount of money burnt and made every year. If that goes off then an inflmation would be expected it would blow the whole economy off.

I print my own money.
fishy
2009-01-14 10:56:45 UTC
because it really doesnt change it

the only reason it has value is because its backed by gold

if you were to print more money the value of it would go down, so the price of everything would go up

so everything would cost the same really
