Question:
Do you ever feel guilty for killing an innocent bug?
2009-05-27 13:36:45 UTC
This morning i was raking the lawn and big bee kept flying around me. So i swatted it with my rake, and then stepped on it while it was down.

I haven't thought about it till now, but i kinda feel bad for killing it. I mean it was probably having a great time flying around and just wanted to see what i was. Then i go and kill it.

I don't know maybe its stupid.

Yes, that's why I always give them a fair trial before I kill them!

first off, of course killing could be "good," or i guess the more correct word would be worthwhile. just ask che guevara or malcolm x or the people who killed mussolini. the point you're trying to make i disagree with. although i somewhat believe in the possiblilty of reincarnation, i really disagree with you. first of all, the purpose of living a life that will one day be reincarnated is hardly about waiting. it's about using your valuable time on earth to do as many good deeds as possible. that way you'll be able to move up a class. besides, who's to say that a human is above a bug?? maybe a bug is what WE work up to? (think about it, how simple and easy a bugs life must be -its a possiblilty.) secondly, whether your postulate is true or not, you don't know. no one knows. for instance, what if this life is all we have to live, no afterlife?? than your actions were absolutly terrible to that poor bug. you're never doing anyone a favor by killing them unwillfully. so you can't judge his worth of life on that. lastly, if living beings were to reincatnate, you also just screwed yourself because you killed another living being. thats all i have to say about that.
2009-05-27 13:47:24 UTC
yea i think life is life, murdering a human is the same as murdering a fly. Doesn't matter how different we are, taking life is taking life...its like ah well i killed that hitman who has no feelings so its okay, um no you still killed... but i also think that murder is okay. If creation didn't want murder to exist i'm pretty damn sure it wouldn't. Its like I can't travel to pluto in my lifetime so obviously thats not an option but murder is an option and sometimes an opportunity to live longer if its kill or be killed. And if i do go to hell for murdering bugs then im completely fine with that, im gonna be myself regardless, not like i had a choice to be born or not. So if i couldn't make a choice before life what makes me think i can make a choice after it?

I can't even kill a bug I feel so guilty. (plus I have a phobia of spiders) I have to catch it and take it outside of the house every time I see a bug.....it's time consuming, but I can't bring myself to kill a bug. (trust me, I can't do it, i'm more likely to kill a person.)

It's kinda like you're killing someone.....it's a living creature too. it can feel pain. It has a family.......well, at least that's how I think of it.

If you don't kill SOME bugs they would be EVERYWHERE, so there's nothing wrong with killing a few.

Yeah, I feel like that sometimes too. I never kill a bug unless it's really bothering me.

Funny, I just read this right after drowning a fly down the sink drain.

I have felt that guilt, I know where you're coming from. (Besides, beetles are adorable, dragonflies and butterflies are beautiful, and mosquito hawks (not mosquitos) are just plain cool.) But I've accidentally killed a mosquito hawk on my windshield recently, and I did feel bad about it. (They go by other names, they look kind of like mosquitos but they're about 4 times the size of a mosquito.)

I also feel guilty when I use a bug spray to poison a bug, but I'm terrified of spiders, so...I usually spray until it drops then smack it with a book so that it doesn't suffer too long with the poison.

No its not though your probably going to get flamed for this question by people. Do you know Buddhist monks won't walk at night for fear of killing a insect. This is partially do to the reincarnation thing but in reality its because they recognize all life as important. So you can feel guilty, on the other note I'm allergic to bees and it would have probably killed me so I would have killed it too.

Aw :( poor bee. I never kill bugs, they only have one life just like everyone else, and I'm sure they value it just as much as anyone else. The only time I kill bugs are when I accidentally step on them, or something else by accident. But to be honest, I even keep an eye out for ants when I walk, so I can avoid stepping on them!
2009-05-27 13:41:56 UTC
It's not at all stupid everything has a right to life and we think nothing of killing, just because we're bigger and we can! I feel bad EVERY time I kill a bug. My husband chases them down to put them outside instead of killing them! The monks won't kill a bug even if it's on the dinner table, they walk and try not to step on ants, so it's not stupid at all!

Bugs have the function of our ecosystem,it's a part

of nature like men are.

Unless if it does hurting you in some ways, you gotta

trust your instinct to defend yourself,so kill before you

get killed.Next time just reflect,we make mistakes many

times, but it takes just ONCE to correct it.
2009-05-27 13:41:23 UTC
I dont feel guilty, but if you think about it there living creatures too, there not different from us at all, we are just more intellegent, and we dont care about anything but ourselves, its like sharks killing humans

people shouldnt kill other living creatures but they do anyway so w.e thats life, whoevers on top of the food chain wins

well im scared of them & when they get in the house i have someone kill them & yeah i do feel bad afterwards but if the bug is not to big ill try to sweep them out the house or whatever without killing them
2009-05-27 13:45:41 UTC
Not bugs, but once I stepped on a birds egg and bawled my eyes out. The next day I did it again. :(

We ended up moving the birdhouse away from the driveway.

yeah i never actually kill the poor things myself but sometimes if it's a really gross one i'll ask someone else to do it and then afterwords i feel a little sad about it. i'm not even sure why i get scared of them it's just a natural reaction i guess :-(

Yes.

My brother and I were digging holes in the backyard and we found a bunch of worms. He tried to drown them but of course, they buried themselves in the dirt. Then we left them on the shovel in the hot sun and they died.

I felt kind of bad for killing them like that, it was slow, cruel, and painful.
2009-05-27 13:41:05 UTC
I only kill the guilty ones

2009-05-27 13:42:37 UTC
yes i do, but it all depends on the bug.

like when i i accidentally kill a spider, most people hate spiders but they kill horrible flies so as far as im concerned were on the same team!
2009-05-27 13:41:40 UTC
yeah. XD. sometimes i feel guilty for picking flowers, too. i dont think it's hurting the individual bee as much as just hurting nature and destroying something pretty, lol.
Lovely_Duckling
2009-05-27 13:45:47 UTC
Yeah totally... I mean, if its a spider, maybe not... but they might not have feelings, but they can feel pain, so yeah sometimes it makes me feel guilty, especially if it's like a dragonfly or cattepillar.
2009-05-27 13:44:13 UTC
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! dont kill dem! the bees in the hive will signal thats it dead and then they'll come out and got bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, bzzzz and annoy you so you dont sleep and sting you till your dead! -SIGH- buut that'll never happen

p.s. i have an over active imagination x3

Yeah I feel bad, but it usually doesn't stop me, particularly if its one that would likely cause me injury especially if it's a fire ant. All of those evil creatures deserve to die.

I started to feel bad when I killed spiders, so I catch them and put them outside now.
2009-05-27 13:40:57 UTC
Maybe you did that out of self-defense; after all, you could be allergic to bee stings.

I really don't kill bugs. They actually help the earth.Bees pollinate flowers and plants. That bee you killed caused one plant to die.

Yes, always...I usually only get the spiders cause they scare me, but anything else I leave alone.
