Question:
Do you have a "home" phone?
2008-02-18 17:40:17 UTC
Let's face it.... landline phones are becoming a thing of the past. Do YOU have a phone in your house and why or why not?

Yes.

It's an essential device. If the power fails, like in a natural disaster, it will usually work even when all other services do not. Your cell phone will eventually die.... or the power at the cell tower will be out too.... rendering your cell phone useless. Also, if the power is out, the cable modem phones, or internet phones, cannot work. The standard land line phone, the old telephony standard, is powered by 48 volts of DC power. Each Central Office (located within about 5 miles of your home) has giant diesel engine generators that kick on automatically when the phone service dies.

Also - the old fashion telephone companies dispatch trucks to high elevations to transmit your Hi-Capacity lines via microwave to bypass dead areas that occur if trees or the like brings down poles that supported phone lines.

If you're out of power for a week or more.... you'll really know how important the land line (corded - not cordless) is.... and you would NEVER be without one again.

Yes, I have 2: one for my DSL and one for my security system. The DSL doubles as a "talk" line.

I like having a landline because cell phone coverage is still spotty. I hate trying to have a lengthy and meaningful conversation on a cell phone.

For the record, I hate my cell phone. I do not want to be reachable all the time. People expect you to answer it. If I didn't have small kids, and commute 100 miles a day, I would not have one.

Yes....we have on in each of our bedrooms & the kitchen.

So that makes 6 landline phones.

We have them because sometimes it's a pain to carry around a cell phone in the house.

Yes. Cell phone minutes cost a lot to just use as needed, and in some places certain cell phone companies just dont get any service to your phone, therefore i carry a cell phone for emergencies when I am out and when I am home I prefer the house phone.
2008-02-18 17:43:34 UTC
Yes I dohave a landline phone because my cell phone is personal andI dont need companies and such calling it.I rather them call my house phone.

Yep, I use it for work. I talk to people all day - THEY are using cell phones. Cell phones are not nearly as reliable as landlines and the sound is just crappy...unfortunately we are getting used to this as a standard and are accepting less.

Indeed with cell phones we are just thrilled if we don't drop a call every day. Could you imagine that being our standard for land lines?

Great question!

i do have a home phone because in the area where I live cell phones, no matter what type, will not pick up.. the one i had .. had to be hooked to a booster and would only work on the outside// i didnt want to have to go out every time i needed to use the phone.. so thats the reason for me,,,

No. My husband and I just moved across the country and we decided not to get a house phone. It would be a waste of money because we both have cell phones and everyone in both of our families has the same service so all calls are free. It's the cheapest thing to do. I

No, I only have a cell phone. The way I see it, cell phones are way more convenient. I mean, if the electricity goes out, I don't have to worry about not being able to use my phone. Besides, why pay two phone bills, when they both do the same thing?

Yeah, we still have a home phone. We have an age limit for cellphones in our house, so my little brother and sister don't have one. We'll probably still keep the home phone though.

Yes, we live in a gated community that requires a home phone to utilize the gate. Plus when the cell dies we still can call out, and for american idol voting.

yes-if they want to talk fine and more convenient for me--won't have cell phone--going to the store, drs office, post office whatever is the ONLY time I get anytime by myself and since when I am gone I am usually driving I couldn't answer cell anyway--too --- dangerous. In a 6 mos. time I have witnessed 8 accidents happen because of them.

Absolutely. I don't have to keep it charged, it's free to call anywhere locally which is how I do most of my calling and I have a phone in various rooms meaning I dont have to carry my cell phone around me to hear it ring/answer it. I love my home phone.

I got the Comcast Triple Play (internet, cable, landline) Had it about a month. Have given number to NO ONE, yet rings at least twice a day. Just got on do not call list, but it takes a month.

Will use it for business purposes, by company & husbands. I don't want to conduct business driving down the street.

actually in the "stable previous days" I used to think of how large it became into that Maxwell clever had a shoe-telephone even with the indisputable fact that yet another article would have been used, yet needless to say that became into the craziness of "Get clever." I used to ask your self on the miracle of the telephone working without that telephone line, then why he continually ended up in that telephone sales area (what are they you may hear young ones asking) if he had that shoe telephone to start with. Then there became into action picture star Trek and their wrist communicators. does no longer they have been a extra powerful determination than cellular (cellular) telephones one has to question? now no longer having to hold the unit around (and lose it besides). I nonetheless think of it can be a large theory to have a (arms unfastened) wrist communicator; it can be a novelty as i've got no longer worn a watch fastened for years as I place self assurance in the cellular telephone. Even the early clone infantrymen (action picture star Wars) had some fairly nifty technologies too. For my way of life i in my view relish that i'd properly be in touch with companion and teenagers so promptly. i do no longer would desire to project myself as lots approximately my youthful teen understanding i will touch him so promptly and vice versa. i do no longer bypass overboard with each and all the main modern-day technologies yet i in my view relish the talents of a few of this kit. i think of the older era (that have those) relish them in simple terms as much as I do. at latest my mom is in wellness facility and my brother is presently experiencing international flight problems ... evaluate the stress help skills those contraptions grant us on the 2d. It would not seem that for the time of the past I instructed my father that sooner or later quickly he could be waiting to communicate with and spot every physique he loved by a television reveal ... regrettably he died till now he had the prospect to journey this technologies as I easily be attentive to he could have enjoyed it. He could have been an information superhighway junkie for particular! My mom consents with me.

no just my cell phone and my partners cell phone. that is it. hardly ever home so we dont need a landline.
2008-02-18 17:48:38 UTC
No... only cell phones. What's the point of paying for a landline AND cell phones. It' either one or the other. And no telemarketers!
