I sold my first art piece when I was 14. It was on sell for $15, but the person bought it for $20 because she liked it so. I want to get more into that, but how would someone sell their artwork online?

Yes I have sold plenty of artwork. Selling art is a right place at the right time type of thing. In high school i began getting more into doing paintings and my mother had entered them into a little county fair and put high prices on them as I told her i did not intend to sell them and I was even away for the summer when she entered them. Every one of the pieces she had entered for me had won 1st place in some sort of category and one had taken 2nd i believe. One of the paintings i instantly sold for $800. She got my permission of course before she sold it. after that I had moved away and began working and then eventually giving guitar lessons. Students who came to my home and saw my art would then spread the word and I would seem to constantly have a commission artwork to be working on. I hadn't really enjoyed doing commissioned works for money nor advertised but almost felt guilty to say no. Over time i decided to try and just sell art. So i did a test piece which i had put in a galley for months at only $80 or so and it never sold. Eventually I went and took it out of the gallery and just hung it on my wall. One day my fiance was going to go sell antiques or something at a booth at a antique store for fun and asked if she could take my painting and try to sell it. I said "I don't care" and I said I didn't care how much she sold it for either. She sold the piece for $180 within an hour. So I just find it funny that art seems to sell more when I am not trying.

Anyways I recently move to Los Angeles and as I had to restart my guitar lesson business which was my main income before I moved... it surprisingly has not picked up as well as it had it my previous location. Also I am new to the area and do not have a ton of connections so I began painting freely again and have recently started to sell on ebay.

The problem with starting to sell on ebay for me is that it is a new market that I have not established a name in as i had in my home town. It is a slow climb but I have sold some works. Only I have had to begin creating less time and money costing works so I can offer my pieces at a lower price than I used to. I have gone from selling pieces $800-1500 to doing pieces for 10-40 dollars and i do some higher but I'm just trying to make my stuff available to more people.

Anyways that is my 2 cents on selling art. It is possible. I am not a huge success but I do plan to become one of the ebay top seller artists.
