At the start of Half-Life 1 you take the role of Dr. Gordon Freeman an MIT graduate in Physics, & he is riding a tram like carriage thing that takes him through the Black Mesa Research Facility (Its a massive science facility that's hidden out in New Mexico) until he reaches the Anomalous Materials laboratory part of Black Mesa where he works where he gets out and Puts on his famous Hazardous Enviroment Suit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HEV_suit#HEV_suit) & goes into the test chamber & thats when thing get interesting.
I'm not entirely sure what Black Mesa are trying to prove by this test but regardless they did it any way - Black Mesa are trying to prove that there are other universes & somehow they have previously tiny portals to another universe & today the guys are extremely happy with themselves this is because they have somehow (you find out in Episode 2) acquired a Crystal from another Universe which Gordon has the (mis)fortune to push into the beam of something (I cant work out what it is) which then literally tears open a Portal to the Xen overworld in which Aliens (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_creatures_in_the_Half-Life_series) like headcrabs, vortigaunts and other terrible beings enter the human world and start killing, turning into zombies and doing other horrific things to humans.
Anyway the story goes on through HL1 and you then reach the Lambda complex and they teleport you into Xen and you go around and do somethings in this weird place and then you have the massive battle against the Nihilanth and Gordon kills the big evil Xen ruler and the mysterious G-Man (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G-Man_%28Half-Life%29) starts engagimg you conversation about joining you which you then do...
Half-Life 2
Gordon has been put into stasis by the G-Man for 20 years (this pretty much just means that hes been asleep and non-existant for 20 years) anyway the G-Man awakes Gordon telling him a little bit about whats been happening in his absence and puts him on a train that has just put in at city 17 - Gordon then discovers the seriousness of what happened at Black Mesa all those years ago the Xen alien race has run wild (Headcrabs kill people then attach themselves to your head and sort of bring you back to life but as a mindless Zombie) (also the vortigaunts which you killed in the first one have joined the human resistance and now use their powers for good) but the main thing that has happened is the Combine invasion on earth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combine_%28Half-Life%29) which took place a couple of hours after the Xen invasion (the combine come from yet another universe and they travelled through the black mesa portal and invaded earth taking it over in just 7 hours.
So Gordon gets discovered by old friend Barney & he gives gordon directions to Dr. Kleiner's lab (Kleiner was one of gordons fellow scientists at black mesa)
But on the way he gets taken out by combine police but he's then saved by the hottest/coolest game character ever!: Alyx Vance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alyx_Vance)
She & Gordon then safely reach Kleiners lab and they attempt to teleport people through a teleport system that the combine introduced to Earth but dont know how to use.
The first test is successful when Alyx teleports from kleiners lab to Elis lab (Eli is Alyx's father - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eli_Vance) but then when Gordon tries to teleport something goes wrong for him and he briefly gets into Dr. Breens office (Breen is the main bad guy of this game because he was the one that organised earth's surrender to the combine - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr_Breen) and he sends out the alert to the combine that Gordon Freeman has returned... so the game continues and I'll only briefly write what happens - you get to Eli's (on foot... I think gordon was wishing he had hiking shoes lol) & you meet Alyx's pet robot Dog (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog_%28Half-Life_2%29) then the combine capture him so Alyx & Gordon go to Nova Prospect where Eli is being held prisoner and rescue him but in the process they discover that their fellow resistance member: Judith Mossman, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judith_Mossman) is actually a spy for the combine and then she takes Eli directly to Breen and Alyx & Gordon Bail back to Kleiners lab.
Alyx has to get kleiner to a safe place so Gordon just goes outside on the streets of city 17 where war has been declared on the combine...

at the end of the game they all end up in the citadel (Combine Base) and Breen trys to make a superportal to escape Earth but gordon destroys it and kills breen and then it blows up & time freezes & the Gman talks to you and the game finishes...

Episode one
The Vortigaunts 'unfreeze time' and rescue gordon & alyx from the citadel & the G-man turns up & is shocked to find that the Vortigaunts are blocking him from reaching Gordon & thus freeing Gordon of G-mans employment.
So you wake up a Free-Man (that was a pun lol did u get

Which is easier to believe: This person is really psychic and all of science is wrong or that your mother gave this person some information beforehand? She may have been told by your mother that you were coming and she may have done some research. She may be very good a cold reading. You would be amazed at how much information you gave her by your expressions when she said certain things. As a fun trick I memorized a list of ten things that fortune tellers and palm readers say when they do a reading. EVERY time I have done a ‘reading’ I have gotten at least 4 hits. When asked about how well I did almost everyone tells me I got half or more right. How could this be? These ten things are true for nearly everyone and nearly everyone has no clue that what is true about them is true for about 99.44% of everyone else! Google “cold reading” and be amazed at how easy it is to convince people, even hard core skeptical people like you that the impossible is actually being done! But, as you already know, science can be relied upon and people who tell the future are not really doing so and most of them know it!
