Because Thanksgiving stands by itself but pretty much everybody celebrates at least two holidays around this time(unless you don't believe in the Gregorian calendar)
So if if bothers you so much than just say merry christmas

Fist of all, Yeshua (Jesus) of Nazareth was born in the Summer.
When Christianity became widespread, they made Christian holidays to take over Pagan ones. Yule is the Winter Solstice and takes place on December 21st. Christmas was created to take the limelight away from the "Old Ways". The Christian Church copied many of the Pagan/Celtic traditions and passed them off as Christian.
When people started going back to the Old Ways and when people of other religions, such as Islam, Jewish and African came to the U.S. and Europe, they changed "Merry Christmas" to "Happy Holidays" so as not ot offend people who do not observe the Christian version of the Holiday Observances.
You can say "Merry Christmas" though, you wont offend us.

Christmas is a commercial christian holiday. Many people don't celebrate it because it's become commercial and not for the fact that its religious. I personally don't celebrate Christmas as a religious holiday, i celebrate it for the commercial holiday it is like many other people. People no longer care that its the birthday of Jesus Christ...which...for everyone's information, Jesus was officially found to be born during the summer. They have found his skeleton and have done multiple bone marrow tests to determine the exact date he was born and when he lived, Look it up online. So, officially, Christmas is not a religious holiday, it is a commercial holiday much like valentines day. They also say happy holidays for Easter.

Political correctness because saying Merry Christmas is affiliated with Christianity. Thanksgiving is not a religious holiday.

Most people, when they get off for Christmas, will also be off for New Years as well. So you say "Happy Holidays" to touch on both of the holidays that they will be celebrating while apart. You also say it to people who may be celebrating the other winter holidays that take place, such as Kwanzaa or Hanukkah.

Hanukkah always falls around Christmas time. It is a Jewish Holiday some folks find it awkward and some don't. I have tons of american friends that are Jewish and some that I do not know what they are. Out of etiquette's it is the appropriate thing to say without offending anyone.

Basically people say this because it`s politically correct to do so. In other words everyone is afraid of saying Merry Christmas to someone that might not celebrate it like someone who is Jewish for instance or Muslim, etc. I don`t care about being politically correct at all and I just say what I want because the majority of people do celebrate Christmas so why should I cater to the lesser percentage of people who don`t celebrate it. Hope this answered your question!

Beacuse not everyboy celebrates chrismas some people celebrate hanhka or kawnza

Because this time of year is the time for celebrations of all kinds, not just Christmas.
Christmas isn't even the original celebration for this time of year....Winter Solstice is the original one.

Public school : Happy Holidays
Private school: Merry Christmas
Public school: Spring Break
Private school: Easter break....
you see the pattern?

Because not everyone celebrates Christmas and (respectful) people shouldn't take a chance at ruffling anyone's feathers.

not every celebrates christmas but they usually celebrate a holiday, like Hanukkah or kuhunza (sorry bad spelling) so we say happy holidays, not merry christmaas
