Do you still buy CD's....?

When I get music that isn't free I buy the CD. I do like that many of the CDs I have purchased through amazon upload to Amazon Music without me needing to rip the CD. I do download the Google Play free albums even if I don't know who the artist is. When I pay I want to own something not just licence it.

Yes, I buy CDs with songs that mean a lot to me, and it feels more secure than storing it digitally. Most cars have a CD player but not all have iPod hookups, especially if it's older.

Yes (rarely), also (mostly second-hand) vinyl and tapes. I have bought the odd MP3 or MP3 album but tend to prefer physical shops for such things where I can.

Most of the time I'd probably listen to stuff via Youtube, however.

While I haven't bought any in a couple of years, that's due mainly to a lack of physical space. I still have CDs and a CD player, and do still use them.

I only purchased a couple of albums (Brittany, and the Back Street Boys) maybe like 12 (?) years ago on CD's. Itunes never worked on my pc so couldn't even buy singles. I used to have a huge collection of music in the 1960's, and a nice size collection of music on cassettes over the years, but technology (the cost of it just to get to the music) bums me out and makes me lose a lot of money so I had to give up on music. So then used to watch American Idol and again technology intervened and took Fox off of our apartment basic tv they give us here....so all I have left is the radio and a couple of stations I listen to on the weekends for music.

Yes, I've always wanted to have my own personal collection, and in about 2 years I've bought over 40 CDs and almost 10 vinyls. I would get cassettes as well, but they're a bit too fragile, imo. It's always better to look through the artwork and well, imagine you lose your internet connection, as unlikely as that sounds. xD

I've always prefered physical supports rather than digital, as it just gives a much more personal feel to it, rather than listening to the same album thousands of people listened today mindlessly already. Gives it somewhat of a meaning, creating a moment, if you will. ^^

I buy CD's, records from 78s to 45s, and cassettes. I collect music stuffs! I could waste hours in a music store going through records and things... tangibility means a lot to me. It depends on the genre, too.

CDs I typically buy for "meh" things that can sound ok on CD.

Records are definitely the best for Jazz, Big Band, Swing, Waltz, and just old oooold music in general. Nothin' beats the crack and pop of old records. They're also great for classic rock and atmospheric Black Metal.

Cassettes I buy for Harsh Noise, Black Metal, and experimental stuff.

As far as music is concerned it is very difficult to get my attention.

When I DO like an artist (or at least one of their songs) I have to go all-out.

Yes, I still buy CDs.

It is still the most superior format of sound.

I mean I guess hi-def is superior now, but it requires special hardware... and that means $$$.

No. If I want to hear a specific song or album I look it up on spotify. If I find an album I love, I buy a vinyl. Why buy it in a format as irrelevant as a CD? Nothing special about a CD. Just like there's nothing special about cassettes anymore. If im going to buy an album it better be superb sound quality.

I am a very big enthusiast of physical things.

Of course I download digitaly. It's more convenient. But if I like something enough, I will pay for it twice. Once digitaly and once again for the physical copy.

I like to hold things in my hands. It makes things more real. I like to think of it as collecting. I never use the physical things, but I like to have them. Cd's, dvd's, books, vinyls. I like to have them all.

Yes, I too buy CD's for games only. Though I do have stacks and stacks of blank ones in my attic from over the years and occasionally I will burn a CD with some music and pop it in the CD if I do not want to use my iPod or phone or computer in a certain area. Like in the garage when I'm working on the car or outside when I'm gardening (using the hose) or cleaning the gutters or want to set the theme for Halloween. If the CD gets scratched or ruined who cares. If the iPod, Phone or Computer gets ruined, I'm going to care.

2015-10-17 22:56:48 UTC
Yes, I do. I cannot rely on online music marketplaces (like iTunes) giving me low-quality garbage recordings in low-quality garbage audio file formats (such as MP3, AAC). Even if it isn't crisp in sound like vinyl or cassette, at least with an audio CD still have the power to actually have ownership of my favorite music and rip it in a better audio file format (such as FLAC). I also don't like "renting" my favorite music, in the event I cannot hear them ever again when they just...vanish.

Yep. It depends on what I want though. For individual tracks, I might just pay for the one song. If I want several songs, or the entire album, I'll order the CDs. If you listen to a lot of classical music like I do, if you get something like "The Complete Works of" then you want those in CDs. I like liner notes too.

I still do, a lot of albums are still released on CD in addition to digital (I haven't bought a song online yet). Just for collecting the physical thing sake. Plus it often comes with a rather nice booklet.

I would also jump on cassettes and vinyl even though I don't have a player for it anymore. I need to ask my dad to play those for me.

Yes, as a musician and audiophile CD purchasing is two-fold:

1) I think musicians should get credit for the music you are willing to listen to.. It's theft to torrent it.

2) MP3 is low quality compared to CD lossless format. Put your phones on and you can easily tell the difference.

Yes. I still have them in my room, but if I don't have a specific album, I'll go look up on YouTube to listen for free! I could rent some from the library and will listen in order to get my imagination brimming with the stories. What do I think about something that matters the most to me is to imagine how much I love pure imagination with all of my heart, body and soul. Either way, my God is more than I could ever imagine in my life. I don't listen to audiobooks, but get physical copies of books for visual thinking. I listen to alternative rock and found it to be extremely awesome, even in my tweens.

I get my preference of buying CDs out because I've gotten enough books to read and I just want to listen from the discs. Thank you for the question, and have a nice day! :)

Not any more. I've got so many of them that it takes ages to find what I'm looking for so now I tend to play music on you tube, it usually leads to finding some other favourites that I hadn't thought of.

I do transfer it onto my itunes but I actually prefer it in physical format and building up a collection. Same with books, I can t stand ereaders. Yes! I mainly buy online nowadays, as opposed to in stores. The appeal being 1. They can be cheap/decently priced, and 2. I like receiving things in the mail! :)

I don't foresee a time when I don't buy C.D.s as I like 'owning' music, (sad and materialistic, I know :P ) as well as having artwork and stuff to go with the music!

Also the fact buying online is so easy and convenient, means I buy a lot lot more music now than I ever did before!

Yes, I bought one today! Me and my parents' house has about 50 albums gathered over the past 25 years. I have all the Now That's What I Call Music! albums since 74 (2009). I bought 91 today in Sainsbury's for £13 (I'm sure I've lost all American readers) and it took me about 40 minutes to rip it to WMP, before copying the good songs as MP4 onto my phone and tablet. I hate spending money online, if there's an individual song I want to hear I just have to make do with the radio and YouTube.
