Why do people hate Macs and Linux?

I've noticed that many people that use Windows tend to hate Macs and Linux. I ask because I use a Mac (more specifically a MacBook Air) myself and I like it a lot, due to Mac OS X's ease of use. My dad also really likes Linux. To him, CentOS is one of the best distributions and he's talking about getting a new computer (which would come with Windows) and dual booting Windows 7 and CentOS. However, many Windows users seem to hate Macs and Linux. Why is this? I have nothing against Windows (or Linux for that matter, I personally actually like Linux a good bit myself), especially considering it was the operating system I used dating back to Windows 98 and I even like Windows 10. Why do Windows users dislike Mac OS and Linux so much?

I think a lot of it is what you're used to. I've been buying cheap no-name computers for years, so the equivalent Mac would be more than 2x as much. Nothing against Mac, I just don't use it.

I've used Windows since it first came out (well, about). I've both liked it and hated it. Win 10 doesn't seem to me to be any better than Win 7, it just has more 'feature creep'. I recently discovered Linux when I bought an old laptop that had no Windows on it. I use Linux Mint and it works every bit as good as Windows, maybe a little faster. It's just not as 'slick' as Windows 10.

it's the same irrational hate that fuels racism and other advocacy based conflicts. you have no choice but to be proud of what you have and what you can afford and it is easier to compete by tearing down than improving.

so if you don't have it, then you use hate to devalue it; right or wrong, it often woks effectively to build your value in the eyes of others.

so if you got a small D, you hate on those with big ones. if you got no money, you hate on those that do. if you got no skills, you hate on those that do.

if the best you can do is mac or windows, you hate on linux. if all you can afford is linux, you hate on windows and mac. if you got skills in and access to all; you don't care and don't understand the hate.

it's just human nature.

The price is a big factor. You pay a lot more than what

you actually get because windows are a lot better,

cheaper and has a lot more features
