Punishment fitting the crime would be absolutely appropriate, I completely believe in that. And that includes public beatings and the like. I'd especially like to see the most violent pedophiles be sodomized and subsequently castrated.

Public embarrassment is a more effective deterrent for crime actually. People are afraid of losing their social bonds. So if we brought back public floggings we just might see a reduction in crime. In Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers, if an adolescent committed a crime they AND their parents were publicly flogged. The author seemed to believe it would be effective.

I personally think punishments from the "olden days" were horrible. I don't think ANYONE deserves to be drawn and quartered, or have their head cut off, or even be hung, or have their hands cut off. That's disgusting and wrong.
I think public punishments like locking people in stocks or beating people in front of the town are terrible. I'm glad they don't do that anymore!
Plus, think about the people who aren't guilty, but still get convicted for a crime
I love mercy, everyone screws up, even you. I would want mercy so I extend it to others.

Yes... I do think "cruel and unusual punishments" should be brought back for certain crimes. Like that woman who drove her kids off a bridge a few years back, just because her new husband didn't like them. I say she should have been driven off the bridge, left in the water right up to the point of losing conciseness, brought back up for all of about a second and sent right back down repeatably until she died from it.

Great idea. Lets make it just like it was in the Dark Ages. Gee I wonder why they called it that. Boil people in oil. Peel the skin off of them. Crucify them. Burn em at the stake. Draw and quarter them like in Merrie Olde England then stick their heads on pikes so everybody will respect the law. We don't need a merciful society, do we? And if a mistake happens once in a while...well, just pray it isn't us, right?

Yes - stocks would be good;things could get pretty funky in the old days.Every town that has a square should get its own banker to horsewhip to within an inch of his life.Peace.

It would be cheaper than jails. People in stocks, public thrashings, bare- bottomed spankings.......sends chills up my spine. Nothing like a little public humiliation.

I really don't condone violence, but I do think that spanking is a good method of contol when administered in time, if you fail to do it in time it stops working.

If they brought back public fogging for many crimes, and chopping of limbs of thieves then we would see a drop in crime.

For major crimes, it might be a better determent than prisons. Free room and board, cable, weight room access, internet... man, those prisons are nice!

Sure doesn't seem like the threat of prison works anymore which I would say is purely proven by how overcrowded the MANY prisons are.

Dude, I live in Canada. Our justice system is a complete joke! The rest of the world is laughing at us! ANYTHING would be better than what we have now.

Floggings need a comeback, so does castration, the rack would be nice too.

I think so but there would be those who would claim that it was an offense to the person's dignity or something stupid like that.

I think public spankings should be widely used on naughty ones.

Hard to tell. The criminal would have to do something terribly bad before I would watch him or her get beaten. L
