Yes - some while back my number was the same as that of a local coach (transport) firm except that the last two digits were reversed. I was forever getting calls for them and suggested that they ask the GPO (it WAS then!) to change their number (I'd had my number for years already), but they did nothing and the calls continued at all hours.

It was only when I started to take "bookings" for them - which of course I promptly ignored - and they started to lose business that they did something about it ! ! !

yes we are one number from a school and another number the other way from a child-care clinic.

hasn't happened recently though.

if it gets too annoying try answering "train station, good morning" !

for faxes i have a great remedy - first make sure your number is unlisted. secondly, don't answer calls that you aren't sure who they're from - let your answering machine do that.

if you want to answer you can always pick up in the middle and if it's not a mistake and someone you don't know - they'll either leave a message or call back later.

answering machines usually say the number where the fax trying to be sent was coming from. we had this automatic fax at some company added our number and was sending us faxes at 3 a.m. !

after a few nights of being rudely awakened i let the answering machine get it and the following morning i sent them a fax that requested immediate removal from their list and to stop harassing me or charges will be filed with the police, they stopped !

good luck !

I use to get phone call's all the time for this lady Shelia, I looked her up in the phone book and her number what nowhere near mine! When I first got this number, the name on ppl's caller id would show somebody totally different from this Shelia lady. I finally got fed up and had my number changed. Now no problems

yep....my number is ***-**5-**** and the hospitals is ***-**4-**** all the asterisks are the same digits so I'm forever getting phone calls for the hospital(since it's only one digit off, and they are all for the same town)....all hours of the day and night.
