Question:
Should I Leave My Bedroom Window Open When I Go TO Sleep?
2009-03-18 18:06:55 UTC
I live in a good area its just I wanted to sleep with the window open tonight. But I'm not sure if its a good idea since I'm a 15 year old girl and anyone could just come in but its on the second floor and it's just for one night...Do you think it's ok?

Sorry, I wouldn't recommend that. Burglars and thieves are very opportunistic and much more observant than we might think. When they're looking for a victim, they're going to take the path of least resistance. And, of course, they don't hit places in their own neighborhoods; they look for someplace where an intruder is least expected. So the fact that you're in a "good area" might make you an even likelier target. I doubt you'd leave your car unlocked with the keys in the ignition. When you think about it, it's almost the same thing. Why take the chance?

No I would always close my windows. Being on the second floor does not deter a burglar from getting to your window. If you want to sleep with a window a little open you can buy locks to keep the window from moving from the designated position. Even then I would choose not to.

Professional burglars are looking for open windows.

Please be very careful.

Do you have screens on your window? How about curtains? and which way is the window facing? The street or elsewhere?

I normally keep mine closed just because I don't like to hear all the noises outside, but if I wanted to, I could open mine up. I have screens so that bugs and other things can't get in, and plus I live in the middle of nowhere, so I'm not really worried about someone coming in.

;P

Whatever you feel comfortable with

Yes, come rain or shine I have it open. I think it is healthy, having said that it really depends on where you live. If it's on a busy main road, near a smelly factory etc it might not be so pleasant or good for you. Noise could be a problem (but I guess you get used to that). I am very lucky because I live on a farm and the only sounds are nature!!

If you leave it open 2 or 3 inches it should be fine. most windows come with a lock at about an inch open.

You could leave it open if it is not that obvious. You could put curtains, turn all the lights off...
