Question:
A questionnaire regarding renewable energies and the average person's knowledge about the topic.?

Hello,
I am currently working on a research project for school regarding renewable energies and their economic viability. A big part of my research is the average person's knowledge about the subject.
For this purpose I have created a questionnaire, and would appreciate if whoever filled it out could do so to their best of their ability, with thought-out answers. I'm not looking for a whole essay, just serious answers. Just your own knowledge is what I'm looking for, not your researched answers.

1. What is your age? Where do you live?

2. What is renewable energy for you? What do you know about it?

3. What types of renewable energies do you know about?

4. Do you use renewable energy or "green" cars in your daily life? (Green meaning not a major pollutant)

5. If you don't use renewable energy, is it because you consider renewable energy to be too expensive?

6. If you were told that the profit accumulated from renewable energies was greater than its buying cost and installation, would you consider using it in your daily life?

7. Do you think your local government should put more emphasis on renewable energies? Why?

Whoever fills this out has my thanks, I really appreciate it.

-Jay

1. 66,Calif.

2.solar

3.solar

4.cars..no but it does have good gas mileage and is a small car.

5.I don't use it because I am no longer in a situation where I can use it.

6.I have and I know it to be true. In the past I have lived in a totally off grid home. Solar home. Minimum gas usage for refrigerator. All Summer we collected wood scraps from a truss company who was not allowed to burn in Summer. This gave us free heat all Winter when we were allowed to burn. We also lived on the high desert and no one around for miles. Our home had the max in insulation to retain heat and keep out cold. A straw-bale home would have been the best home for renewable energy efficient living.

7. Calif gave a tax break on the use of solar. For 4 years we paid no Calif state tax.

Yes they should because the govt.s now give lip service to the public and never really put their money where their mouth is.

One other thing, If you take the cost of your last new car and use it for a guide for the amount of solar you can afford you have a better idea on what you can do toward solar. Pay it off as you would a car. The second you hook up your solar you are making money. If on the grid then do net-metering.

Thanks for asking Jay.

. What is your age? Where do you live?

20, switzerland

2. What is renewable energy for you? What do you know about it?

renewable energies are energies that are always available and where you can get energy from just in the natural process of that "substance"

3. What types of renewable energies do you know about?

like wind, water, garbage and wood.

4. Do you use renewable energy or "green" cars in your daily life? (Green meaning not a major pollutant)

no. none unfortunately.

5. If you don't use renewable energy, is it because you consider renewable energy to be too expensive?

I'm living at my parents house and I've told them a few times to get renewable energies but they think it's still too expensive.

6. If you were told that the profit accumulated from renewable energies was greater than its buying cost and installation, would you consider using it in your daily life?

yes

7. Do you think your local government should put more emphasis on renewable energies? Why?

yes cause it's a problem we need to face all together and we should start caring more about it.

1. What is your age? Where do you live?

20yrs male, Irvine, California USA

2. What is renewable energy for you? What do you know about it?

renewable energy is alternative sources of energy besides ones that cannot be renewed. I know a good deal about it since one thing I've always want to do is live off-the-grid in a remote lodge in Alaska. You have to know about solar power, alternative fuels if you want to live 100 miles from the nearest power line.

3. What types of renewable energies do you know about?

Solar (photovoltaic and heat)

Water (hydro power/tidal power)

Wind energy

Methane (from biodegrading matter)

Nuclear energy

Fusion/cold fusion

Geothermal

Bio diesel

Thermoelectric generators (first used in RTGs, but now can be found in some prototype generators)

4. Do you use renewable energy or "green" cars in your daily life? (Green meaning not a major pollutant)

No. I cannot afford to buy a 25k$ hybrid car.

5. If you don't use renewable energy, is it because you consider renewable energy to be too expensive?

Yes it is. I make about $7.40 an hour (net wage) and a full time college student. Believe me, when I say its expensive, it really is. But I did try: I salvaged 4 very old PV panels from a swap meet. They don't output much at all (compared to new PV panels of same size) and with some salvaged and homemade parts I made myself greener by using that energy at night to power some lights and the computer.

6. If you were told that the profit accumulated from renewable energies was greater than its buying cost and installation, would you consider using it in your daily life?

Yes. and I do know that you can make a profit from alternative/green energy. However to do so requires a substantial investment most people cannot afford.

7. Do you think your local government should put more emphasis on renewable energies? Why?

California is already do so. However I feel the benefits given to people who buy hybrids and such only helps people who can afford a 25k car and hurts those who cannot upgrade to more expensive energies. Likewise applies to solar panels and other green energy alternatives.

2. It means energy resources that can be continually renewed, basically the opposite of oil.

3. Water, ethanol, solar

4. Got a Plymouth Neon, it's pretty easy on gas. I don't think it counts though.

5. Pretty much, yeah. Can't afford a new car or anything.

6. Sure, why not?

7. Probably, because we have a real problem with people around here choosing to drive big, "Macho" trucks that eat up gas.

2. Energy generated from natural resources. I know enough.

3. sunlight, wind, rain, heat...

4. No

5. yes, but also because the impact of using renewable energy is not great enough change the outcome.

6. Probably not, I would want to do my own research first.

7. No, I don't believe we have enough knowledge about it yet for the government to push it.

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.

According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

that's the photograph of a broken government. edit: Wow, super answer from JS. DrM easily has it astounding. the whole boost economic device of the international is consistent with source extraction (be it mining or agriculture or fishing) and the fee extra to those components. Or, you need to declare, the fairness markets of the international are a substantial Ponzi scheme based on the destiny fee of components. What occurs whilst the components run out? What occurs whilst the source base is poisoned and could not produce or maybe sustain? What cornucopian capitalism fails to correctly known is that components are finite, the two in what could be extracted and the quantity of waste which would be assimilated. the respond is a sustainable economic device. i will't say what that could look like, yet making socialism the bogeyman does not sparkling up any difficulty, it in simple terms serves to perpetuate the present device of graft and inequity. If our social structures have been sparkling and honest, capitol holders could artwork to guard the commons particularly of exploiting them for each final dollar. JS has spoke of what's taking place now and why. Vote third occasion, vote eco-friendly, vote something yet status quo. In a rational international there could be no choose for subsidies. people could choose continuously sparkling unfastened power from the sunlight (unfastened as in unfastened from ordinary fee) particularly of finite and poisonous power from carbon, despite if the up front expenses have been greater beneficial - by using fact they could understand that the long term expenses have been far worse. yet we don't stay in a honest sparkling economic device and in lack of expertise the we fall for the fake determination.

-Plenty of things are going "Green"...however I do know that it has become a branding strategy over something that was meant to improve the earth. Renewable energy is anything meant that generally will always be around. (i.e. plantlife for remediation of soil pollutants, solar, hydro, and wind energies)

-I have used sustainable design in almost all of my projects. You name it I know it.

-Like I said before "Green" has become a brand. I do drive a Prius.

-I use renewable energy

-Of course!

-Yes!...Because fossil fuels are running out!...Wars will be faught over water for crying out loud if we dont find a way to clean and reuse the water we have now.

Light bulbs and a car that runs on old food oil

Yes

It is expensive but its worth it

yep
