Wow, there are so many different types of book, it would be hard to mention just one...so I won't....how about I just mention a few.

Douglas Adams--The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Actually, the whole series is outstanding, but the first book was the best.

David Lifton--Best Evidence. Probably the best book about the Kennedy Assassination.

Stephen Ambrose--Nothing Like it in the World. The story of the building of the Transcontinental Railroad.

David Halberstam--The Fifties. The definitive history of the 1950's.

Levon Helm--This Wheel's on Fire. Drummer for The Band (Up on Cripple Creek, The Weight, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down), this is both his story, and the story of the group.

Anne McCaffrey--The Dragonriders of Pern. Actually, I cheated. The book is actually a collection of the very first three books in her "Pern" series (Pern is the planet where the stories take place)...Dragonflight, Dragonquest and The White Dragon. First-class fantasies.

I have only ever read one book, and that is the Bible. I have no need to read any others.

I personally love the 'Wheel of Time's series by Robert Jordan. It's from epic fantasy genre. It's 14 books + 1 prequel with 2000+ characters, so quite a commitment.

As cliché as this may be, Harry Potter is a close second to the best book category.

I have a few - all Sci-Fi.

The Foundation Series, by Isaac Asimov

The Lensman Series, by E.E Smith (very simplistic, 1950's noir style)

The Boat of a Million Years, by Poul Anderson

I've read all of them close to a dozen times over the decades.
